Troubled Songs for Sad Lovers

The National hit it out of the park.
This is the same as previous National records the way all Cezanne Still Life’s are the same. 13 songs like 13 short stories cataloging romantic angst and daily failure. Raymond Carver would weep. And he never had a baritone like Matt Berninger’s. A soundtrack to making poetry out of missing the mark.
“I couldn’t find quiet, I went out in the rain, I was just soaking my hair to unravel my brain”,
“I am secretly in love with everyone I grew up with”,
“you didn’t see me I was falling apart, I was a television version of a person with a broken heart”,
“Am I the one you think about when you’re sitting in your fading chair drinking pink rabbits?”.-
they are hitting Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Raymond Carver, John Cheever levels of poetry here.
An instant classic.
No hyperbole.
No shit.
